New Features
The following features were added to SpecLink Cloud:
- Revit Plug-In
- BIM Web Viewer
- BIM Library Improvements
- Importing Report Tags
- New Role Added: License Manager
Revit Plug-In
We are introducing a Revit Plug-In to allow users to sync Revit model content with their SpecLink Cloud projects. This will provide real-time, integrated workflows between Revit and SpecLink Cloud.
For the Revit Plug-In Download Links and Install information, please visit this guide article.
Once the SpecLink Cloud Revit Plug-In has been added to Revit, to sync a Revit model with an SpecLink Cloud project or office master:
- Open a Model in Revit
- Access the "Add-Ins" tab in Revit
- Click the SpecLink Revit Plug-In
- A Pop-up will appear to Login to SpecLink Cloud. Input user credentials and click Login
(User Login information will be saved so it does not need to be reentered every time.) - Select a Project or Office Master and then click the Sync button. A notification will appear when the sync is complete.
- Now in the associated SpecLink Cloud Project, the Revit Model will be synced with the project.
Please note that the previous process of uploading Revit models using controls within SpecLink Cloud (referred to hereafter as “legacy” uploads) are discontinued with this SpecLink Cloud release. Any Revit models previously uploaded will continue to function within SpecLink Cloud, including the legacy 3D viewer function.

BIM Web Viewer:
There is a new BIM Web Viewer to go along with the SpecLink Revit Plug-In. This viewer will allow users to open the synced Revit model without needing access to Revit to interact with the 3D Revit model directly from the SpecLink Cloud project.
This viewer can be accessed by clicking on the cube icon associated with the Revit Model, either from the Dashboard Page or from the BIM Files tab in the SpecLink Cloud Project itself.
To improve the interactive experience for users integrating the Revit model with the SpecLink Cloud project, users can click on objects in the BIM Viewer and see the corresponding element card in SpecLink Cloud become highlighted (in the BIM Details List View mode in SpecLink Cloud). This also works in reverse as well, by clicking on an element card in SpecLink Cloud the element in the BIM Viewer will become highlighted as well.
The interactions between the 3D model and the SpecLink Cloud Project is similar to the legacy 3D experience. For new users, the BIM viewer provides multiple accessible control methods to navigate around the Revit model.
For help with the SpecLink Cloud BIM Viewer Controls, please see this guide article.
BIM Library Improvements
The overall BIM experience, features, and integration within SpecLink Cloud for interacting with the Revit model and the SpecLink Cloud project remains the same as previous versions, but there have been visual updates made to the menus, Element Cards, and more. Legacy menu items that are no longer in use have been removed, for example the "Upload a BIM File" button.
In addition to general clean-up of the BIM-related menus in the BIM Library, the projects dashboard, and the BIM Files tab, the Revit Element card menu and the Compare BIM Files menus and user experience have been improved.
Users will see some modified menus and icons to differentiate between legacy Revit uploads and new Revit models that have been synced. For example, legacy uploads can be opened in the 3D viewer by clicking the TV icon, newly sync’d models can be opened in a new BIM web viewer using the cube icon:

Importing Report Tags
Continuing with the improvements to the Import from Word process, starting with 2025.3.0, users will be now able to pre-code their Word Documents to automatically add Report Tags to paragraphs on import.
Previously only the Outline and Short Form View tags could be added as part of importing Word documents into SpecLink Cloud. Now, users can have Report tags added during the import process as well, vastly reducing the time it takes to add advanced features to user-added documents.
In your SpecLink Cloud, any Report Tags that you see in the Tags menu – both Master and User tags – are now eligible to be added on Import from Word. Please review the Report Tag article prior to setting up any report tags in a word document. A full list of all RIB Master Tags can be found there for reference.
There are two ways to add Report Tags as part of the Import process: Express Tagging and Precoded Tagging. Only one method can be selected during the import process.
Express Tagging
Express Tagging will scan the Word document on import looking for direct matches with the Report Tag list in SpecLink Cloud. Whenever a paragraph begins with text that exactly matches an Report Tag name followed by a colon, then the paragraph will have that Report Tag added to it during import.
- Example Paragraph: "Shop Drawings: Indicate pertinent dimensions, materials, anchorage, size and type." This paragraph would receive the "SD - Shop Drawings" report tag.
Only one tag can be added to a paragraph on import with Express Tagging
Precoded Tagging
In a Word document, not every paragraph that requires a tag will be able to start with "Tag Name:". When this happens, using Precoded Tagging will be useful. When using Precoded Tagging, SpecLink Cloud will scan the Word document on import looking for paragraphs that contain percentage symbols on each end of text that matches a Report Tag label in SpecLink Cloud, then that tag is added to the paragraph on import.
- Example: The "SD - Shop Drawings" report tag will be added to a paragraph that contains %SD%.
Multiple Report tags can be inserted into a paragraph and they will all be recognized with Precoded Tagging.
It is also important to note, that when a %SD% type precoding is found during import and the tag is added, the precoded text will be removed from the paragraph. If no match is found on import, the precoded text remains in the paragraph allowing the user to resolve.
New Role: License Manager
A new role will be joining the list of user roles in SpecLink Cloud, the License Manager role! This role will allow more flexibility in management of their SpecLink Cloud users. Assigned License Managers will be able to manage users for their SpecLink Cloud account without taking up a paid seat on their subscription.
- Does not take up a license spot
- Full focus on People Page management (Except for Role Permissions)
- System Managers can assign/remove users as a License Manager in the People Page
- License Managers will not have access to Projects or Office Masters and will be unable to access/edit/print SpecLink Cloud projects.
To learn more about user roles, please see the guide article here.
Enhancements
Enhancements that have been made to SpecLink Cloud include:
- Adding Additional User Role Options
- Ability to Add User Paragraphs in the Reference Standards article
- Adding Additional Permissions to Share Projects
- Import from Word: File Count Increase
- Import from Word: Add Ability to Import Only Legacy Coded Units of Measurement
Adding Additional User Role Options
Expanding on User Roles in the People Page and Role Permissions Tab. Adding a number format after Manager, Expert, and Standard Users to further fine tune the User Management process.
The total list of User Roles will now be:
- System Manager
- Manager
- Manager 1
- Manager 2
- Expert
- Expert 1
- Expert 2
- Expert 3
- Standard
- Standard 1
- Standard 2
- Standard 3
- Standard 4
- License Manager
The initial implementation of the new role options will not change any current user roles, but will update the default Role Permissions to the lowest level of each group (Standard 4, Expert 3, and Manager 2).
Ability to Add User Paragraphs in the Reference Standards article
With the automation of Reference Standards within SpecLink Cloud, users were not able to add their own user-added paragraphs inside the Reference Standards article. Now with this release, users will be able to add paragraphs to the article.
- Any paragraphs will automatically be given an RS tag.
- Reference standard paragraphs can still be inserted using the automated drag and drop placement.
Adding Additional Permissions to Share Projects
When sharing a project to an outside contributor, permissions can be set to adjust the access level to the project, such as view only or only active sections. Two new permission options have been added to the share experience: Edit/View Notes and Edit/View Summary Info.
The Edit/View Notes option will control whether or not the contributor will be able to see any notes associated with the project.
The Edit/View Summary Info option will control whether or not the contributor will be able to access the Summary Info tab from the Sections List in a Project.
Existing edit/view/comment access rules will continue to apply, such as when a project is shared with edit access but the contributor does not have an SpecLink Cloud account, then they can only view the shared project.
Import from Word: Increase Maximum Number of Documents
The amount of files that can be imported with the Import from Word function has been increased from 20 to 50 documents during a single import.
Import from Word: Add Ability to Import Only Legacy Coded Units of Measurement
Previously, users needed to “pre-code” any recognized units of measure ("UOM") such as inch or foot, prior to importing into SpecLink Cloud. The import converted such UOM’s to the correct enhanced text type. In order to support legacy “pre-coding” in use by some customers, a new option labeled “Convert Only Legacy Coded UOM Types” has been added to the Import dialog.
When selecting this option:
- Any potential UOM types that exist outside of legacy coding will import as plain text
- Only legacy coded UOM types will be converted to enhanced text
- No auto-calculation is done on the UOM types
If a user selects the 1st or 2nd option for UOM import, and the document contains legacy coded UOMs, all recognized UOM types (whether legacy coded or not) will import as enhanced text and be subject to auto calculation of values.
Non-legacy vs. legacy coded sample:
- Non-legacy coded: 1 inch (25.4 mm)
- Legacy coded: {{1 inch (25 mm)}}
Fixes
The following fixes have been made to SpecLink Cloud:
Import from Word Fixes
- Fixed the issues causing some Reference Standards articles and paragraphs are importing at incorrect levels.
- An improvement to the import process will now ensure that pre-coded Global Term text does not get mistaken for Reference Standards on import.
- When a Word document using the CMT style for notes is then on imported into SpecLink, the text should convert to a project note. In some cases the note was not converting correctly or the document import was failing. Both issues have been corrected.
- Fixed that some Reference Standards were being imported with extra plain text symbols.
Other Fixes:
- Corrected the issue causing the print option "Begin Each Section on Odd Page" not producing a blank page in PDF exports.
- Some users reported an issue where Section ID enhanced text type was not appearing on print/exports. This has been corrected.
- Some users experienced an issue where a user created a new section from the master template in SpecLink, then when attempting to import the section into another project it was not listed in the import dialog. This issue has been corrected.
- Fixed the issue that caused users with the correct role permissions to be unable to edit comments.
- Various code and data fixes that are project or customer specific have been applied since the previous SpecLink Cloud release.
