Overview
Sections are the actual content documents you'll edit as part of your project.
This article covers the following topics:
- Activating Sections
- Changing the Name and ID of Section
- Creating a New Section
- Deleting a User Section
- Locked Sections
Activating Sections
A section must be activated for it to be included as part of the project. The methods for activating sections are covered in the article Activating Sections. The article includes a video showing the steps for activating sections.
Changing the Name and ID of a Section
The default System Manager role has the ability to change the name and ID of a section.
- In the Sections List, locate the section you want to edit.
- Right-click the name of the section, or click the three vertical dots located at the end of the section row. The option to Change Name and ID will appear as pictured below.
- The Change Section Name & ID window will appear as below, providing the options of editing the Section ID and Section Name fields.
- Click OK when you've made your changes.
Note: When changing the name and ID of a RIB Master Content Section, the Suffix field is not editable. When performing this action on a user created section, the Suffix field becomes editable.
Creating a New Section
There are three methods for creating a new section. From the Sections List, click the red New button in the top left corner of the screen.
For your convenience, we've crafted an article for each of these new section creation options, each equipped with a step-by-step video. Click the link below that corresponds to the option you want to learn more about.
Deleting a User Section
User sections created by the Create from Template and Import from Word options above can be deleted from the project if they are deemed unnecessary.
The default System Manager role has the ability to delete a user section.
- In the Sections List, locate the section you want to delete.
- Click the three vertical dots located at the end of the section row. The option to Delete appears along with Change Name and ID.
- Click Delete. A confirmation message will appear asking you to confirm that you want to delete the selected section.
Locked Sections
Sections that appear with a lock are currently being accessed by a team member or contributor. Hover your cursor over the lock to view the user currently accessing the section for editing.
No matter the permission level of access granted, when a team member or contributor is accessing a section within a project, that section will be locked for editing to all other users. View and Comment Mode will still be available.
Watch the video below for detailed steps of managing sections.

If I rename one section provided by BSD, what happened with the crossed references included in other sections? e.g. if the 01 60 00 Product Requirements, is changed to 01 60 01 what happened with all sections that included references to Product Substitution Request to 01 60 00? Do we have to change each spec section that includes this reference?
I have the same question.
Hi!,
Thanks for the question.
We've tested this and found that, when renamed, the section ID changed throughout the project. You should run into no issue. Thanks! Gary Christensen
