Overview
The tools for basic editing within a specification section include:
- Modifying a Master Paragraph
- Retaining Master Content
- Deleting User Modifications
- Adding a User Paragraph
- Deleting a User Paragraph
Modifying a Master Paragraph
Users can edit the specification in many ways. The simplest edit is to simply click in a paragraph and type user text. When a user edits the text of an existing paragraph, the system will automatically place an M with an asterisk next to the sequence number. Review the following images. The first shows an unedited master paragraph (focusing on sequence number 0004).
In the next image, you can see that edits have been made as the words “and vinyl” have been added. This will invoke the M* next to the sequence number.
Retaining Master Content
The M indicates this is a Master paragraph and the asterisk indicates that it has been modified. Clicking on the M* will remove the asterisk and hide the user modifications therefore retaining the master content.
Remember that you can not delete Master content, you simply choose not to include it. Click the M again to view the user edits.
Deleting User Modifications
To remove the user modifications, place the cursor on the paragraph and right-click bringing up a selection menu. From the menu, select Delete User Modifications.
Adding a User Paragraph
To add a paragraph simply place your cursor at the beginning of the paragraph located where you want your new paragraph. Hitting enter will create the new paragraph and move the existing paragraph down one sequence number. If you prefer the new paragraph below the existing one, place your cursor at the end of the existing paragraph and hit enter.
When a new user paragraph is created, the system will display a U next to the paragraph sequence number as shown in the following image.
Auto-Select New
Auto-Select New is the option to automatically activate a new user paragraph.
From the SpecLink Cloud toolbar, click the More option located at the end of the toolbar. You'll see an option for Auto-Select New pictured below.
If the Auto-Select New icon and label are blue, as it is in the image above, the text will be automatically activated, based on paragraph levels. If the Auto-Select New is gray, the text will not be activated automatically.
Deleting a User Paragraph
If you place the new paragraph incorrectly, simply right click in the newly created paragraph and select Delete User Paragraph. as shown below.
Multiple user paragraphs can be deleted by highlighting (click and drag) the user paragraphs to be deleted, then right-clicking and selecting Delete User Paragraphs.
