Overview
Users with the proper level of permissions can unlock sections that are locked from editing by other users.
Unlock Section is an option in the Role Permissions under Projects - Sections.
The default role permission is Expert.

Additionally, sections opened by users that are not actively used for more than one hour will be unlocked in case other users on the account need to access them. As of Release 2.16, sections will also be unlocked if users forget to fully log out of SpecLink Cloud or close their browser tab.
Locked Sections Overview
When a section is being edited by a user, the section is considered to be "checked out" for editing. No other user can make edits while the section is being edited by another user. The section can still be opened in Comment Mode or View Mode while locked.
The section will appear locked to anyone attempting to access it.
Hovering your cursor over the lock will display the user who is editing the section.
Comment Mode and View Mode
Comment Mode and View Mode are ways to open sections that are currently locked by another user.
Clicking on a section that is locked by another user will open the section for viewing, either in Comment Mode or View Mode. This will be indicated by a pop-up as well as changes to the SpecLink Cloud Toolbar.
If the user viewing the locked section has commenting permissions in the project, then this view is considered to be Comment Mode and the ability to view and comment will both be available. The commenting feature will update in real time, including notifications. Any updates to the section itself require clicking the refresh button on the toolbar.
If the user viewing the locked section does not have commenting permissions in the project, then this view is considered to be View Mode and only viewing the locked section will be available. Any updates to the section itself require clicking the refresh button on the toolbar.
When in View Mode or Comment Mode, a user can now click the "Unlock and Edit" button on the toolbar. This functions much like the "Unlock Section In Use" feature, but from within the section giving the viewing user control and forcing the editing user back to the Projects page.
Please note, if the editing user exits the section, all users in view/comment mode will remain in view/comment mode.
Providing Permission to Unlock Locked Sections
Providing the role permission for which user type can unlock sections is accomplished in the role permissions list of the People page.
Follow these steps to set the permission for unlocking a section.
- From the SpecLink Cloud Dashboard, click on the People link.
- On the People page, access the Role Permissions list.
- Locate the Section category and adjust the Unlock Section option to the level desired.
Steps to Unlock a Locked Section
Once the role permission has been set, users with the proper level of permissions can unlock sections that are locked by other users.
Follow the steps below to unlock a locked section.
- Click the lock symbol that denotes the section is locked.
The Unlock Section message will appear. - Click the red Yes button to unlock the section.
- The user who previously had the section locked will receive a message letting them know access to the section has ended.
Viewing and Unlocking All Sections In Use
Based on the provided role permissions, tools are available view all of the sections in use and unlock any sections that are locked with one click.
The option to view Sections in Use has been added to the drop down menu on the Section tree list:
Located on the right of the Sections tree is a new Unlock All Sections in Use button:
The default role for this feature is Expert.
