Overview
RIB maintains an exhaustive library of active references, all of which are available by default in the Reference Standards Panel of the Document Manager located on the right side of the section document window.
This article will focus on the Reference Standards added to the RIB Master Content and kept updated by the RIB Specifications Team.

About Reference Standards
SpecLink Cloud includes citations to over 2,000 reference standards. The RIB Specifications Team verifies every reference standard included in the master database on a regular basis.
SpecLink Cloud includes full titles and edition dates of all reference standards — in a References article in Part 1 of each section and in a consolidated reference standards section in Division 1. Either or both locations can be automatically "turned on" with one setting. The title/date entries are automatically coordinated to the standards that are actually cited in the body of the specifications, to avoid the confusion caused by uncited references appearing in the References articles. Our Specifiers' Library includes a complete list of the organizations whose standards are referenced in SpecLink Cloud.
SpecLink Cloud also includes hyperlinks that allow users to connect to various websites for more information about every reference standard. In some cases, SpecLink Cloud provides hyperlinks to the authoring organization's web site, where the documents can be purchased and may sometimes be available free of charge.
Accessing the Reference Standard Panel
The Reference Standards Panel is located in the Document Manager located on the right side of the section document window.
- Click the Document Manager tab.
- From the Document Manager, select Reference Standards.
- The searchable list of standards will replace the Document Manager as displayed below.
Searching for Reference Standards
Once the Reference Standards Panel has been accessed, the list of Reference Standards will appear in the panel.
Follow the steps below to search for a particular reference.
- From the top of the panel, enter text in the Search field.
- If the search field does not immediately appear, the panel has been scrolled downward. Click the magnifying glass to access the Search field.
- In the image below, NFPA has been entered in the Search field. The returned results will appear in alpha-numeric order. From here, you will be able to review the reference's information and if appropriate, add it to a section paragraph.
Reviewing Reference Standard Information
Follow these steps to review reference standard information.
- After searching for a standard, hover your cursor over the standard name in the list of results. In the image below, the standard NFPA 10 is highlighted.
- When the cursor is over the standard name, the information "i" will appear in the right margin. Click the "i" in the circle.
- Review the Reference Standard Info screen displaying the Designation, Edition, Reference Title, and Hyperlink Target:
- Click the back arrow
to return to the list of search results. From the list of search results the desired standard can be added to the active section.
Adding Reference Standards to a Section
Follow the steps below to add a Reference Standard to a section document.
- Confirm the desired location for the reference standard within the active specification section. In the image below, the NFPA 10 standard will be placed at the end of paragraph 0196.
- From the list of search results, locate the desired standard.
- Click and hold, then drag and drop the reference standard into the desired location within the active specification section. The reference standard citation will appear in the desired location within the active specification section.
Remember that this citation is a hyperlink to learning more about and possibly obtaining the actual standard if necessary.

How does that newly added reference standard then get added with its title under the References article in Part 1? It doesn't seem to happen automatically like it does in SpecLink-e.
Hi Jeff! Currently, newly added reference standards are not automatically added to the Part 1 - Reference Standards article. This feature is on the SpecLink Cloud plan for a future release. While that feature is being developed and tested, you can drag the standard into the Part 1 article for inclusion. SpecLink Cloud will place it in the proper order.

5/5/2020 - Update - Jeff, newly added Reference Standards are now automatically added to the Part 1 Reference Standards article.
How do I get the name of the reference standard to show up as well. I drag and drop the ASTM # into my spec but I have to type in the name? Is there an option to make the name show up automatically similar to the Section ID "Include Section Title" check box on the Choices panel fly-out?

If you drag and drop a reference standard into the Reference Standards article of Part 1 the title will come along with it. As you are aware, you can add the title by using a choice field. If you are doing so elsewhere, only the designation will appear.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately the reference standard title dies NOT come along with the designation; at least not for me. Wish it did. Guess I'll submit a a fix request to BSD Support.

Is there an option to search which sections the standards occur in? For example, if you were looking for sections with an NFPA 10 reference in the system database, is that possible.

Currently there is no way to search for a list of sections that contain a specific standard. I will send this along to our Support Team so a ticket is created and the request is added to our log.
