Creating Custom Reference Standards
Follow the steps below to create a custom reference standard and add it to an active specification section.
Note: The Designation entry cannot be edited once the custom Reference Standard is saved.
- Click the Document Manager tab located on the right side of the active specification section window.
- From the Document Manager menu, select Reference Standards.
The Reference Standards Panel will appear.
- Click the Add a Reference Standard button in the Reference Standards Panel header.
The User created form will appear.
- Populate the form with the requested information: Designation (citation or code - note this entry cannot be edited once saved), Edition (year), Title (actual name of standard), and Hyperlink Target is available. In the example below a Georgia Amendment to an ADA standard has been added for use in any SpecLink Cloud Project.
- When complete, click the Save button in the lower right corner of the form to save the new Standard. The option to discard is also available here.
- When saved, the new standard will be included in the searchable list. User created standards are indicated in the list by a "U" as displayed below.
- Add the new standard to an active specification section by dragging and dropping it into the desired location within the specification section.
User created standards are kept up to date by the default System Manager role.
Editing Custom Reference Standards
Custom reference standards can be edited and updated. The System Manager role can edit custom reference standards. RIB Master reference standards cannot be edited or deleted.
Follow the steps below to edit / update a custom reference standard.
- Click the Document Manager tab located on the right side of the active specification section window.
- From the Document Manager menu, select Reference Standards.
- Hover over any user-created reference standard and click the Edit option.
- Make the necessary edits to the Edition, Reference Title, or Hyperlink fields of the custom reference standard. The Designation field is not editable.
- Click the Save button to save the changes to the custom reference standard. Alternatively, click Discard to discard the changes made to the custom reference standard.
Accepting Updates to Custom Reference Standards
Edits to a custom reference standard will be available to all projects and office masters.
If a project or office master is already using a reference standard, users must use Update mode to accept the edits into that project or office master.
- Access a section that uses the user created reference standard.
- Click on the link displaying the number of available updates located under the section title, or click the Edit button and choose "Update" to access Update Mode.
- Click on Reference Standards in the Section Updates side pane.
- Accept the appropriate updates.
The updates will appear in the project or office master after you toggle back to Edit mode.
The reference standard will be updated everywhere it appears throughout the entire project.
With this release, only the System Manager role can edit or delete user created reference standards. RIB Master reference standards cannot be edited or deleted.
Deleting Custom Reference Standards
Custom Reference Standards can be deleted if and when no longer needed. Only custom reference standards that have been removed from every project can be deleted.
The System Manager role can delete custom reference standards. RIB Master reference standards cannot be edited or deleted.
Follow the steps below to delete a custom reference standard.
- Click the Document Manager tab located on the right side of the active specification section window.
- From the Document Manager menu, select Reference Standards.
- Hover over any user-created reference standard and click the Delete icon.
Only custom reference standards that have been removed from every project can be deleted. If the custom reference standard being deleted is still in use within another project and error message will appear.
