Overview
The Sections List will display a familiar “folder and file” structure. Access the Sections List by clicking on a project name from the Project List on the Dashboard, or by clicking the Sections button from within a specification section.
This article covers the following topics:
- Viewing Sections
- Folders (Divisions / Subdivisions)
- Files (Sections)
- Deleted Sections
- The Sections Filter
Viewing Sections
Access the Sections List by clicking on a project name from the Project List on the Dashboard. The Sections list will be the default view as shown below. From here you can view All Sections, view only the Active Sections, or search for a certain section.
The entire tree structure, including all branches, can be expanded or collapsed with a click of the mouse.
From within a section, click the Sections menu in the top left corner of the document window as shown below.
When the sections menu is accessed here, you can search the sections, view All Sections, or view only the Active Sections.
Folders (Divisions / Subdivisions)
Folders represent the Divisions (08 – Openings) and Subdivisions (08 5000 – Windows) of the current MasterFormat™ numbering system.
See the image below where Division 08 – Openings has been selected to reveal its first two Subdivisions, 08000 Openings and 081000 Doors and Frames.
Notice the difference in the color of the two Subdivision folders. Blue indicates that a section or sections have been activated into the project. Light Grey indicates that no sections have been activated into the project.
Files (Sections)
Files represent the specification sections and are the actual content.
See the image below where subdivision 08000 Openings has been selected to reveal its only section, 080671 – RIB – Door Hardware Schedule. Subdivision 081000 Doors and Frames has been selected to reveal its first two sections, 08113 – RIB – Hollow Metal Doors and Frames, and 08116 – RIB - Aluminum Doors and Frames.
Notice the difference in the color of the two section folders under 081000 Doors and Frames. Blue indicates that section 08113 – RIB – Hollow Metal Doors and Frames has been activated into the project. Light Grey indicates that section 08116 – RIB - Aluminum Doors and Frames has not yet been activated into the project.
Comment and Update Indicators
The number of active comments in a section is indicated by a word bubble with the number of comments. The number of updates available for the section is indicated by a clock and the number of updates.
Locked Sections
Note: Sections that appear with a lock are currently being accessed by a team member or contributor.
Hover your cursor over the lock to view the user currently accessing the section.
No matter the permission level of access granted, when a team member or contributor is accessing a section within a project, that section will be locked from editing to all other users. The ability to unlock locked sections is a role permission that can be modified by a System Manager. Review the options of Unlocking Locked Sections.
Opening a locked section will open the section in View Mode or Comment Mode, depending on permission level. This will be indicated by a pop-up as well as changes to the SpecLink Cloud Toolbar. Read this article more information on View mode and Comment Mode.
Deleted Sections
The RIB Content Team indicates that a section has been removed from the RIB Master database with 2 red X's next to the selection box in the Sections List.
Once the section has been accessed, the option to remove the section from the Sections List will appear.
An explanation of the deletion and a list of current sections to review will be found in the "Update Notes" in Sequence 0001 as well NP/NS sequences between the Update Notes sequence and Part 1: General.
If the section had any edits or had been accessed at any time it will not be removed without the user applying the update to remove it from their project. We suggest making a copy of the section if it is needed in your database. It will become a user added section at that point and will not receive any further updates by the RIB Content Team.
The Sections Filter
The Sections Filter is located next to the search bar and above the sections list.
The Sections Filter allows for the filtering down of sections in X ways:
- Active Sections: sections of the project that are currently active
- Active Comments: sections with active comments
- Updates Available: sections of the project that have available updates
- Hidden Content: sections where RIB content has been hidden (See Summary Info)
- Sections in Use: sections of the project that have been checked out by others
Watch the video below to see how to view and activate sections in your project:
